McKinsey has about 9,300 consultants in 89 offices in 50 countries around the world. In addition to engaging in client work, many consultants join global industry practices, or research groups. Experiences and knowledge gained locally are shared globally, and enable McKinsey consultants to consistently provide clients with distinctive, global perspectives.

Although McKinsey has offices around the world, the company operates as "One Firm" worldwide. The Firm is not composed of a headquarters in the USA and foreign branch offices. All offices within the Firm are equal, maintain the same service standards, and regularly cooperate on projects that are global in scope.

McKinsey also operates the McKinsey Global Institute. This institute specializes in macroeconomic research, regularly collaborates with leading academic institutions on global research efforts, and provides McKinsey's client service teams with rigorously researched perspectives on global and local economic issues and phenomena.
