Through McKinsey's own robust recruiting process, we are looking for people who demonstrate capabilities in the following areas:
Problem Solving
  • Possesses intellectual horsepower of analytical and logical reasoning abilities, curiosity, creativity, business judgment, tolerance for ambiguity, and intuitive feel for numbers.
  • Sample questions to assess these qualities:
    - How would you estimate that number?
    - What kind of things would you do to make that business more profitable

Influencing Others
  • Feels comfortable in team situation, is able to positively influence others, shows an interest in other people, has a sense of self-confidence without arrogance, and listens, understands, and responds well to others as well as stands by own view if challenged.
  • Sample questions to assess these qualities/personality:
    - What are some of your most important achievements?
    - Can you discuss a tough decision you had to make and how you reached it?
Leading Others and Building Relationships
  • Is able and willing to take on leadership roles with persistency, seizes opportunities of entrepreneurship and takes action with a willingness to take a personal risk, helps to build highly effective teams with a shared vision, and is sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of other team members.
  • Sample questions to assess these qualities/personality:
    - What leadership roles did you play at school?
    - What are some of the most challenging experiences you've had at work or at school?
Achieving Goals
  • Sets high aspirations for self excellence with high energy level and perseverance, expects and achieves outstanding results, handles obstacles well, and has a willingness to go outside own comfort zone in order to achieve what one wants.
  • Sample questions to assess these qualities/personality:
    - Describe a situation in which you were working to reach a goal
    - What obstacles did you confront along the way?
