Consultants who are elected partners have demonstrated their superior ability to lead and inspire consulting teams, manage every phase of an engagement, coach and mentor colleagues, and contribute to knowledge. Partners build relationships with clients, and pursue a balance of depth and breadth in their professional interests.

Typically, successful consultants who join McKinsey early in their career can expect election to principal (the first stage of partnership) within five to seven years after joining the firm. People with substantial prior professional experience may be elected much sooner and, in rare instances, may join our firm as a partner. There is no limit to the size of our partnership; each individual's success contributes to our growth, reach, and impact.
